Most people know Omaha for the Henry Doorly Zoo, the College World Series, and the Old Market… but what they don’t know is that Omaha is one of the most RV-friendly midwestern cities for travelers who love nature, museums, wide-open spaces, riverfront trails, and easy access to campgrounds.

In fact, within a 60-mile radius, you can experience:

  • world-class museums

  • state parks and recreation areas

  • hiking, biking, paddling, and wildlife viewing

  • historic sites

  • small-town charm

  • unique attractions you won’t find anywhere else

This guide gives you the best local spots, where to park your RV, what to expect, and insider tips from a local who knows the area inside and out.

⭐ Omaha’s Top RV-Friendly Attractions (Inside the City)

These are the places EVERY RV traveler should visit — especially if you’re staying at a nearby campground.

1. Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium

Best for: families, couples, solo travelers

RV parking: available in the main LOWER lots, very large and easy to navigate

Consistently ranked among the top zoos in the world, this is the must-see Omaha attraction. Many exhibits are indoors, making it a great stop in any season.

Don’t miss:

  • the Desert Dome

  • Lied Jungle

  • the Aquarium

  • African Grasslands

  • the Skyfari

  • Sea Lion Shores

Pro Tip: Visit early morning for fewer crowds.

2. The Durham Museum

Best for: history lovers, architecture fans

RV parking: limited street parking available along nearby roads (call ahead for oversized vehicle guidance). Recommended to take your TOAD (tow vehicle) instead.

Located in Omaha’s historic Union Station, this museum features:

  • restored passenger trains

  • 1930s architecture

  • Great Hall exhibits

  • regional history

Perfect for rainy days or cold winters. Christmas time here is a must-see! They bring in a massive tree every year and decorate the heck out of it. A perfect photo-op for the next family christmas card.

3. The Old Market District

Best for: walking, food, shopping, ambience

RV parking: best option is to park outside the district (10–15 min walk) or use metered oversized street spaces. Also use your TOAD here and when driving anywhere downtown Omaha. The old brick roads, one way streets, confusion caused by ongoing construction, all are not conducive to RVs and campers. Just leave the camper at the campground and drive into Omaha for a one-day excursion where you can cover most of the downtown Omaha attractions.

The Old Market is Omaha’s charming brick-paved arts & dining district. Explore:

  • local restaurants

  • coffee shops

  • boutiques

  • art galleries

  • horse-drawn carriage rides

The updated and renovated Gene Leahy Mall has something for everyone! From a desginated kids playground that includes multi-level areas and massive climbing structures, to the infamous metal slides, to family-sized swings, open green space, firepit circles and plenty of little cute metal wire tables like you're sitting in Paris, a grassy hill for rolling down, a waterfall water play feature fun for both parents and kids, and so MUCH more! It's a favorite place for my son and I to go when we want a combo of city + greenspace all in one central location.

Pro Tip: Visit at sunset for street musicians and lights.

4. Lauritzen Gardens (Kenefick Park)

Best for: plant lovers, photographers

RV parking: large outdoor lots available. Call ahead of time to confirm. Always best to just leave the camper at the campground and drive your toad in.

You’ll find:

  • a massive model train display

  • seasonal indoor and outdoor gardens

  • nature trails

  • Kenefick Park’s giant locomotive displays

A peaceful stop close to downtown.

Every season brings out a new highlight to Lauritzen gardens. My favorite place to go for a little seclusion in the winter is their massive greenhouse which makes you feel like you're in the tropics.

⭐Omaha’s Best Natural Areas & Outdoor Attractions

If you love outdoor recreation or quiet nature stops, these are perfect for RVers.

Best for: hiking, biking, birdwatching

RV parking: large open lots, easy for towables + motorhomes

With over 7 miles of paved trails, Zorinsky is a local favorite for mid-day RV breaks, kayaking, walking dogs, or easy exercise. They've added a new inclusive playground on the NORTH side of the park. Definitely a place to check out if you have kiddos.

This is one of the most peaceful spots in Omaha and home to nesting eagles seasonally.
